Buckingham Palace was forced to take precautionary measures as King Charles’ health sparked new fears.
Prince William on Friday had to fill in for the cancer-stricken monarch to attend a significant event in Paris, just a few hours after Kate Middleton concluded her much-anticipated Christmas Carol concert.
The future king attended the reopening of Notre-Dame cathedral alongside other 35 world heads of state. Now, a friend of the monarch has revealed the Palace aides took the decision deliberately.
The friend told The Daily Beast that King Charles and Queen Camilla wanted to keep things “quiet” ahead of their Christmas celebrations at Sandringham and to avoid any risks to their health.
“[Charles] vulnerabilities are well-known but her pneumonia has been a nasty reminder of hers,” the pal shared. “I think everyone is relieved he didn’t want to go off to Paris and stand in the cold for hours on end.”
Meanwhile, Camilla has also been fighting the “lingering effects” of pneumonia, which she contracted during their long-haul trip to Australia in October.
He continued, “They are very sensibly just keeping things quiet to preserve their health in the run-up to Christmas.”
