Idris Elba eyeing for iconic role in live-action ‘Masters of the Universe’

Idris Elba is gearing up for the most iconic role to help power Masters of the Universe for Amazon MGM Studios.

The star is in final talks to play Duncan, aka Man-at-Arms, in the live-action feature adaptation of the popular Mattel toy line.

Helmed by Travis Knight, the movie will include Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, alongside Camila Mendes as Teela and Alison Brie as Evil Lyn.

The Masters of the Universe film hits theaters June 5, 2026, and hails from Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

The upcoming anticipated blockbuster is written by Chris Butler. The initial draft of the screenplay was penned by David Callaham, Aaron Nee and Adam Nee.

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise debuted in 1982 with a popular line of action figures.

The franchise quickly grew to include an animated series, video games, and other merchandise.

Elba, known for his versatility, has several projects in the works. He will reprise his role as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the Paramount+ series Knuckles.

Additionally, the actor will star alongside John Cena and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the upcoming action-comedy Heads of State.

Earlier credits of include such features as Pacific Rim, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, The Suicide Squad and Beast, along with the series The Office, Luther and Hijack.

Moreover, the Thor alum has played Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
